Call for Pitches, Cases, and Tools

The Meeting of Innovation in Information Systems (EISI) is an event of the Brazilian Symposium in Information Systems (SBSI) aiming at enabling contact, discussion, and vision alignment between challenges and innovative solutions of the Scientific Community, Government, Industry, and Society.

EISI focus on innovation from different perspectives, such as business model, process, technology, product, and organization. EISI pursues the interaction; it instigates discussions and experience exchange about several themes through talks, workshops, cases, pitches, and tools.

Attendees

We encourage the participants of entrepreneurs, business people, startups, researchers, students and professors of Information Systems courses, representatives of government institutions or public bodies, and all those passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship to submit their work, sign up to participate in the event and contribute to the discussions.

Submission types

The EISI 2021 will open space for:

  • Cases of Innovation: innovative business or products with results;
  • Pitches: proposals of new business or products;
  • Tools: innovative tools/applications.

Works selection

In all cases, the proposals will be evaluated considering mainly: adherence to the central theme of the event - "Intelligent and Ubiquitous Information Systems: new challenges and opportunities"; the point of view of their innovation potential; the potential interest of companies and the market; its alignment with the Information Systems area; the clarity of its description; and the experience of the proposing team with the research area.   • Cases of Innovation: Cases will be selected considering the innovation context, market, differentials, solution, and the team. Selected works will be presented in a 15-minute session considering 10 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for the audience's questions.
  • Pitches: For innovative proposals, business models will be selected considering the opportunity, the market, the canvas, the differentials, the solution, and the team. The selected business models will be presented through 5-minute pitches to an expert panel, which will offer feedback to the participants as part of the event.
  • Tools: Tools/Applications that explain innovation aspects in the Scientific Community, Government, Industry, or Society will be selected. Selected works will be presented in a 15-minute session considering 10 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for the audience's questions.

Instructions for Case and Pitches submissions

  • Submissions in Portuguese or English will be accepted.
  • Submissions must follow the Innovation Case Template or the Pitch Template.
  • Only proposals submitted in PDF and respecting the maximum limit of 4 pages will be accepted.
  • Submissions in a format other than PDF, which exceeds the maximum number of pages or violates the formatting instructions, will be rejected.

Instructions for tools/applications submissions

  1. A short article (4 pages) should explain the aspect and the process that helped achieve innovation. This process may include, for example: (i) the idea; (ii) research (to support and motivate innovation); (iii) construction and production engineering; (iv) commercialization of a new product.
  2. The article must be original, present an innovative application, or with a significant extension of the application previously presented. In the latter case, evidence of the added value in the previous version of the application must be presented, for example, by describing the application's functionalities or adapting it to new practical applications. In other words, the innovative aspect must be present.
  3. The article must contain the following sections and must not exceed more than four pages in PDF format adhering to the SBC template:
    • Title, author, and affiliation.
    • Summary: a brief description of the application and how the event participants will benefit from watching the application presentation and which audience the application brings interest.
    • Text: present the significance of innovation in Information Systems, including, for example:
      1. Context concerning the capacity for innovation/intervention;
      2. Main features;
      3. Scenario and problem addressed by the solution, its impact on this scenario or potential to have an impact;
      4. If applicable, present a brief description of the case studies carried out using the application, providing scalability of data or links indicating where readers can find information about case studies.
      5. If patents/registration/intellectual property were generated;
      6. Potential for exploration in the market.
    • Maturity: information showing the maturity, complexity, and robustness of the application (for example, application availability, list of features, supported use cases, number and types of users).
    • Video: include a link to a video that demonstrates the application, preferably containing audio explanations, with a maximum of 20 minutes.
    • Link: if applicable, include a link to the web page from which the application can be downloaded.

Publication in Proceedings

All papers (cases, pitches and applications/tools) accepted and presented during EISI 2021 will be published as part of the volume Companion Proceedings of SBSI 2021. Cases and Pitches must be formatted to the SBC template when submitting the camera-ready. At least one of the authors must register for the event by the stipulated date, also including the publication fee.

Important dates:

  • Work submission: March 29th, 2021 April 5th, 2021
  • Authors notification: April 26th, 2021
  • Camera-ready submission: May 10th, 2021
  • SBSI 2021 dates: June 7-10, 2021
