Call for Emergent Themes Track Proposals

Description

The organizing committee of SBSI 2021 invites researchers to submit proposals for coordinating emerging themes tracks. As part of the SBSI 2021 program, a limited number of tracks are planned to be held in conjunction with the symposium, covering emerging research themes in one or more of the interest areas to the Information Systems community. The symposium will be hosted by the Faculty of Computing (FACOM) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU).

The goal of the emerging themes tracks is to provide an alternative forum to address transversal and interdisciplinary themes. The proposed tracks may follow different dynamics from those adopted on the main track, considering the most suitable formats for exploring emerging themes and providing a less formal environment that allows for intensifying discussions and possibilities for cooperation. It is also sought that the proposals can encourage the rise of thematic research groups and subcommunities.

Each emerging theme track will take one or two shifts (3 or 6 hours), and its format will be determined by the track organizers. The preface of each track and its contributions will be published in a volume of the SBSI 2021 extended proceedings on SBC OpenLib - SOL.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event may be entirely virtual or hybrid, depending on the authorities' recommendations. Updates will be posted on the event's website and social media. We emphasize that we cannot anticipate any financial support, and specific requests can be accommodated at a later date with the approval of the event general organization committee.

Proposal submission instructions

Proposals for emerging themes should include the following items:

  1. Track Information:
    • Title;
    • Name, e-mail, affiliation and a short biography of the organizers.
  2. Contextualization:
    • Brief description of the emerging theme, motivation and target audience;
    • Explanation of why the proposed emerging theme is a good match for an SBSI track.
  3. Organization:
    • Tentative list of members of the program committee (if applicable), along with a preliminary call for contributions.

    • Infrastructure needs, expected number of participants, duration of the track activities (one or two shifts), description of publicity plan and financing (if applicable).

The proposals should be submitted on SBC's JEMS platform (https://jems.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=3706) and it must not exceed 5 pages. We suggest the style defined for articles in SBC conferences.

Objectives and Planning Steps

The emerging themes tracks aim to promote forums for authors to present and discuss their most recent contributions on these themes. Organizers should structure activities in the most appropriate way to explore the topic, possibly including invited talks, panel discussions, work in progress presentation, peer-reviewed articles, demonstrations or some combination. The proposal for organizing tracks on emerging themes is defined in two steps:

    Step 1:Submission of proposals according to instructions and acceptance criteria defined in this call;

    Step 2: Accepted tracks organization with proposed activities preparation and receipt of contributions.

Acceptance Criteria

The emerging themes tracks that will be part of SBSI 2021 will be defined by the analysis of the proposals submitted in response to this call considering the following criteria:

  1. Clarity of the proposal;
  2. Innovative aspect of the theme in relation to SBSI;
